Destination Spotlight: Iceland – Land of Fire and Ice

Iceland is a country known for its natural wonders, epic sagas, heroic legends and rich history. It’s a land of volcanoes and glaciers, geothermal areas, roaring rivers, majestic waterfalls, and beautiful lakes. The capital Reykjavik is the most northerly capital city of the world. The entire island has a human population of a little over 300,000 people and is one of the safest countries in the world.

A well-rounded and full trip to Iceland is possible in the span of four to five days, with short flights less than five hours from the East Coast. However, to really explore and immerse yourself if the beauty of Iceland, a full week is recommended.

The high season for visiting is June – August with endless daylight, plentiful festivals and busy activities. Visitors descend en masse, especially to Reykjavík and the south. Mountain roads and some minor roads shut due to weather conditions. Be aware that only brief moments of daylight will peak through as this is the season of long dark nights.
