Don’t Fret – It’s Not Too Late for Summer Travel Plans

It’s already May and you’re thinking it’s too late. Time has gotten away from you and yet another opportunity to travel for a relaxing summer vacation has gone by the wayside.

Stop the presses! The news is it is NOT too late to book summer travel for a trip, be it for couples, families and/or groups. The options range from all inclusive resort packages to river cruises to Disney theme parks — meaning there is virtually something for every person’s taste.

Summer Vacation Options

Acendas travel adviser Cheryl Waag, who specializes in Walt Disney World Resortâ„¢ packages, says the new packages offer captivating family opportunities at the Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios theme parks.

“Disney has always been a family favorite,” Waag says. “They have a variety of packages that we can tailor to meet the interests of your family. It’s definitely not a one size fits all proposition.”

Cancun (Mexico) and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) are popular summer destinations as well according to Acendas travel adviser Connie Pemberton Smith, an expert on summer resort experiences. She says that as long as one has a passport, the number of flight options make such trips a viable option.

“With summer coming up and school out through early August, Cancun and Punta Cana are definitely popular,” Pemberton Smith says. “We can build a travel experience at resorts with multiple rooms that can accommodate extended families if the grandparents want to come along, for example. The resort option is perfect for families wanting to spend quality time together.”

River cruises are extremely popular as well, especially for couples. In 2015, half a million North Americans took river cruises in Europe. Europe is by far the most popular option, but such cruises are also available in Russia, China, Brazil, India and Southeast Asia. And while one might assume such cruises are booked up, that is not the case according to Cynthia Riggins, Acendas director of vendor relations.

“What we are hearing is there are options remaining for the European river cruises,” Riggins says.  “Several lines christened new ships and are gearing up for the future. They are popular because it offers something new for travelers and they allow people to visit several different cities in one trip. You truly get to experience the culture of different countries.”
